The Congress demanded a thorough probe into the matter to get justice for the victim's family members.
Condemning the murder of an IPS officer by a suspected member of the mining mafia in Gwalior, the Congress today hit out at the BJP government of Madhya Pradesh accusing it of "patronising" the perpetrators.
"This is a most unfortunate murder. We strongly condemn it. What is most tragic is that the Madhya Pradesh government seems to be on the side of those who have been perpetrators of illegal mining. Without state patronage, the criminal elements would not have mustered up the gumption to murder an IPS officer," party spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters.
The Congress leader demanded a thorough probe into the matter to get justice for the victim's family members and hoped that the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh will take tough action against illegal mining at least now.
Tewari said the statement of the victim's father shows that the the deceased had an inkling of the danger to his life and the kind of elements he was acting against.
Keshav Dev, father of the 30-year-old police officer Narendra Kumar Singh, a 2009-batch IPS officer has alleged there was a well-planned conspiracy against his son who did not receive cooperation of local police and authorities.
Kumar's wife Madhurani Tewatia is an IAS officer posted in Gwalior and is currently on maternity leave.
Kumar was posted at Banmore as Sub Divisional Officer Police (SDOP) a month ago and had taken on the mining mafia by seizing a number of trucks and tractors engaged in illegal quarrying.
He was crushed under the wheels of a tractor-trolley driven by an alleged member of the mining mafia in Morena yesterday when he tried to stop the vehicle carrying stones in Morena district.
