Continuing their agitation against Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah for his perceived anti-India remarks on accession of the state by the country, BJP activists today held a demonstration here and burnt an effigy of Omar.

About 200 BJP activists led by leader of the Legislators Party Chaman Lal Gupta raised slogans against Omar Abdullah and burnt the effigy of the chief minister in the Science College area of the city despite attempts by the police to prevent the action.

Vehicular traffic was blocked for about half an hour due to the demonstration.

Addressing party activists, Gupta said the party will continue protest demonstrations in different parts of Jammu till December 7 against the Chief Minister, who has been embroiled in a controversy that erupted after his statement in the state Assembly that Jammu and Kashmir had only acceded to the Union of India and not merged with it.

BJP will continue its agitation and boycott all functions attended by Omar till he withdraws his statement, Gupta said, adding, Jammu and Kashmir is and shall continue to remain an integral part of India.

Other party leaders who participated in the protest demonstration included state secretary Surinder Sharma, district president Rajesh Gupta, BJYM president Munish Sharma and Mahila wing president Sakina Bano.
