Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar today advocated for reservation to extremely backward castes (EBCs) in Central services on the lines of similar measures by Bihar government.

Adressing a function here on the birth anniversary of former Bihar Chief Minister Karpuri Thakur, Kumar said that the number of EBCs should be monitored at the national level and they be given their dues.

Asking the Centre to posthusmously confer the title of Bharat Ratna to Karpoori Thakur for his works, Kumar said Thakur had all the qualities to become the prime minister of the country but he met a premature death.

Kumar dwelt at length on the achievements of his government and pointed out that his government provided 50 per cent reservation to women in Panchyati Raj system. The entire nation was now following the state and referred to his government's decision to bring the minorities to the mainstream of the society, Kumar claimed.

He said the government has decided to provide Rs10,000 as prize money to girls and boys who passed the matric exams in first division so that they could pursue studies. The scheme has now been extended to girl students of all sections of the society.

Thanking the people for helping to make Bihar a law abiding state, he said "I have done my best. Now it's for the people to pass a verdict on my government."
