The only reserved plot of the AMC in the Naranpura ward will be given to an agency of the central government for residential purpose.  The plot measuring 5,342 square meter opposite Vijaynagar Municipal Library was reserved for providing health services to the residents of the area.

The plot is at a premium location in the area and could have been developed for commercial use. The estate and town planning committee of AMC had rejected the proposal to allot the said plot to construct Principal Accountant General and A Group Officers’ residential building.

The committee had earlier rejected the proposal on the ground that the residential building could be set up on any other plot in nearby areas. It also recommended reserved plots in adjoining wards like Sabarmati and asked the central agency to choose the site.

However, the standing committee of AMC passed a resolution to transfer the objective of the reserved plot and thus allot 3388 square meter land for setting up residential colony for Principal Accountant General and A group officers.

The standing committee fixed the cost of the land at Rs14,000 per square meter. Around 1500 square meter of land is kept reserved for setting up an urban health centre.

Moreover, the committee also passed the proposal, with a majority, to let the plot for commercial purpose on a token rent.

Maharshi Ashram Trust (Gujarat) organises fun fairs on commercial basis on the ground during festivals.  It asked the committee to give a plot near Shubhasbridge to organise the fun fair for Diwali.  “It is quite surprising the ruling party has passed a resolution to let the plot to a party which damaged the property on earlier occasion,” said Hasankhan Pathan, Congress member of standing committee.

He said that on the earlier occasion the organiser had damaged AMC properties like fencing wall and gate and the civic body had to pay Rs25,000 to mend these things.  The acting chairman of AMC’s standing committee Krishnavadan Bramhbhatt  said that the officials of estate and town planning department had not reported any such damage.
