Against the backdrop of four Generals facing allegations of involvement in the Darjeeling land scam, defence minister AK Antony today held a meeting with Army chief general Deepak Kapoor here today.

The defence minister had called Kapoor for the meeting soon after the Army chief returned from an official visit to Vishakhapatanam and is understood to have discussed the developments and the action to be taken by the Army in the case, defence ministry sources said.

Meanwhile, official sources said the Court of Inquiry (COI) report in the case, sent by Eastern Army commander Lt Gen VK Singh, was with the Discipline and Vigilance department under the Adjutant General's branch at Army Headquarters and Kapoor is expected to take a decision on the matter after receiving an advice from there.

Army military secretary Lt Gen Avadhesh Prakash, deputy chief of Army Staff-designate Lt Gen P K Rath, 11 Corps Commander Lt Gen Ramesh Halgalli and Major General P C Sen were reportedly found culpable for issuing a No-objection Certificate to a private institution, which "falsely" claimed that it will set up an affiliate of the famed Ajmer-based Mayo College adjacent to Sukhna military station.

The Court of Inquiry into the fraud, which was completed a fortnight ago, had submitted its report, on the basis of which Lt Gen Singh reportedly made recommendations to Army chief to initiate strict action against these senior officers, who had a role in the NOC episode.
