If you have a last-minute plan to watch the World Cup finals live in Mumbai on April 2, be prepared to shell out a lot of money, for the tickets and for the airfare here.

A look at the last minute airfares of leading airlines to Mumbai, for the economy class, revealed that prices have increased three-fold and even ten-fold on certain routes, a high last seen in Diwali. The airfare was measured from Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata for early morning flights on Saturday. “Since the demand is high the ticket price will increase on last minute,” said Rajesh Rateria, chairman, Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI).

A search by DNA on travel portals reveals that the airfare for early morning flights on April 2 on Delhi-Mumbai route is priced at Rs13,000 to Rs 46,047, Kolkata to Mumbai is at Rs15,763 to Rs, 20,447 and Chennai to Mumbai is at Rs 17,822 to Rs 47,652. Even the return fares on April 3 from Mumbai to the metros are high, ranging from Rs13,849 to Rs 59,331.
