A Delhi court today remanded Pradeep Sirohi, arrested for his alleged role in rigging the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) entrance test in 2010-11, in CBI custody for three days.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav handed Sirohi CBI custody till January 19 after the agency submitted that he has to be subjected to polygraph test. CBI had sought his custody for seven days.

The probe agency had registered four FIRs in 2011 in connection with the rigging of AIIMS entrance test for post-graduate (PG) as well as under-graduate (UG) courses in 2010-11.

Six suspects, including Dr Mahipal Singh, the alleged kingpin of an inter-state network specialising in manipulating the examination process of these courses, had already been arrested and chargesheeted.

Singh had done his PG in Radiology from AIIMS.

The rigging involved manipulation of answer sheets or OMRs (Optical Mark recognition sheets) by the accused.

Some candidates had allegedly agreed to pay the gang members several lakhs of rupees for manipulating the same.

At the time of scanning of the candidates’ OMR sheets, the ovals against the unanswered questions were darkened with the help of employees of Pearl Technologies, the private firm that provided logistics for the examination process.

The candidate, who had paid for the manipulation even secured admission in AIIMS.

The first out of the four FIRs registered by CBI last year pertained to alleged rigging of the results of the AIIMS PG entrance test held in January 2010.

The second FIR dealt with the alleged rigging of AIIMS under-graduate entrance exam conducted in June 2010.

The third one pertained to the offence of rigging of AIIMS post-graduate entrance exam conducted in November 2010 while the fourth one with the rigging of AIIMS PG exam held in January 2011.
