The daylight murder of a woman in a posh locality in Vastrapur has left the residents dumbfounded. What is more eerie is the fact that the killer calmly walked out of the society leaving behind several evidence for the police to collect. Police believe that the woman Balwanti Patel, 42, a resident of Krishnakunj Apartments in Bodakdev, was killed by someone known to her.

Patel was last seen in her bedroom by her neighbour at around five in the evening.
The neighbour who did not want to be named said the victim was frantically waving at her.
"I was in my balcony and saw her waving frantically. When I rushed to her house I saw Patel breathing her last," said the neighbour.

The neighbour said she then informed the society chairman and the police control room. Patel was stabbed in her throat and stomach.

Her lingerie and a used condom were found near her dead body. "Prima facie it seems the victim had sex before she was murdered," a police official said. The police also found a belt and underwear of a man. They also said that another neighbour told them that she saw two men coming out of the victim's house. "She said that the two had knives in their hand and that they were known to the victim as she had offered them water," the official said. Police official said at present it cannot be ascertained if the victim had consensual sex or was forced to do the act.

Patel had separated from her husband about a year and a half ago. She was living with her 19-year-old son in Krishnakunj apartments for the last 5 years.  Her daughter, Smita lives in Bopal.
