If everything goes as per the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) plans, garbage piled up near roads in posh areas of the city like Satellite may soon be a thing of the past.

In a bid to make Ahmedabad a clean city, the civic body has floated tenders for spots the where solid waste can be dumped. The tenders are for three zones- New West, Central and North.

According to senior officials in the health and solid waste management department, the programme is being implemented in areas where the civic body has not put garbage bins.

There are an estimated 1089 secondary sewer storage sites in six zones of Ahmedabad, of which around 700 have no containers where people can throw the garbage.

The AMC intends to start the spot to dump solid waste management programme at all these sites.

Under the project, hired contractors will collect garbage thrown in open sites and take it to the dump site at Pirana.

The AMC has already implemented the project in three other zones of the city but the prices quoted earlier by private contractors for the New West, Central and North zones were higher and the civic body decided to not accept them, claimed an official.
