One can say it's 'better late than never', as Ahmedabad's only art training institute, CN Fine Arts College (CNFAC), will be opening its own art gallery on October 29.

Despite having a legacy of nurturing some of the best artists in the country, CNFAC, which was founded only a decade after MS University's Fine Arts Faculty in Vadodara, was left behind by the latter on two counts — progress and creating an impression on society. Now the talent of the institute's students and professors will be showcased through this gallery, which will be inaugurated by eminent city based artist Amit Ambalal on Friday. The event will coincide with the Ahmedabad International Art Festival.

TJ Purani, director of CN Vidyavihar, said: "Long standing demand of the faculty of the Fine Arts, as well as art lovers, will be fulfilled on a modest scale. It will give a boost to professional as well as amateur artists and especially the students of the institution."

He further said, "The primary purpose is to cultivate interest in art and create awareness about aesthetics among the people.”

“CN College of Fine Arts will be a happening place, which was for some reasons in a somnolent stage. Now it will be a beehive of artistic activity."

Talking about the Ahmedabad International Art Festival, in which students of CNFAC are also participating, Purani said: "This is the step in the right direction because it has provided an opportunity for the students to get involved in projecting installation on an unprecedented scale. The experience gained by the students will go a long way in shaping their creative genius."

"During the summer vacations, workshops will be held in painting, ceramics, sculpture and art appreciation for amateurs and those who were denied the opportunity of learning these arts. We want to make it a regular feature through this art gallery."
