Don't let cops cut short your Uttarayan mood's flight with traffic hassles. The Ahmedabad traffic department will deploy interceptors to nab reckless drivers and also book people found flying kites on main roads, this year.

According to officials, 435 traffic police personnel, close to 160 members of the traffic brigade and 250 home guards will be on their guard to let citizens enjoy a event-free festival.

The department is also geared up to control accidents that normally mar the festive mood during Uttarayan. It is especially problematic for commuters travelling on the SG highway, CG road and such other main routes where risks of accidents taking place are highest.

Talking to DNA, DCP (Traffic) MM Anarwala said, "Anyone who is found flying kites on roads will be arrested. If it's a juvenile who is found to be indulging in the act, their parents will be called. If at all, the parents of the kids do not have a mobile phone, they will be sent to their homes."

Traffic department will detain anyone found flying kites on roads will be booked or arrested even for endangering public lives and creating public nuisance. Sources in the department however said that there is also a considerable responsibility placed on people this year so that they do not venture out and cause public disturbance.

"There will be effective policing done this Uttarayan but it is also necessary that public does not try to fly kites on the main roads."
