Urban slum campaign is among state govt’s plans for Swarnim Gujarat
celebrations.
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will reach out to more than 25,000 slum dwellers in about 650 slum pockets in the city with information of various government schemes. The civic body would carry out the whole exercise by January 31 as part of the state government's plan to provide information to the poor. The officials of social welfare department will also be a part of this campaign.
The civic body has prepared zone-wise teams and entrusted the responsibility to the additional city engineer of the respective zone to collect information of the slum pockets and hold meeting to provide information of around 59 schemes of the state and the central government for the benefits of the poor. Moreover, the officials will fill in the forms on the spot if the person wants to avail the benefits of any particular scheme.
The officials will also follow-up the case with the concerned department of the state government to ensure that the beneficiary gets full advantage of the scheme in stipulated time, said Anand Patel, additional city engineer of housing projects of AMC. Patel, who is also playing the role of assistant to deputy municipal commissioner IK Patel in 'urban slum campaign', said that people of the slums do not have information about the government schemes. Moreover, the slum campaign would do away with middlemen who reap benefits of people's ignorance about the schemes, he said.
The civic body's team will visit the slum pockets and distribute pamphlets providing information about various schemes and also about the procedure of availing the benefit. "Another such campaign will be held after three months, so that more and more beneficiaries could be covered and the schemes of the government reaches the needy people," said Patel.
