Ahmedabad Doctor, family held for dowry demand

Dr Deepika Parmar killed herself after being allegedly harassed for dowry by her medico husband and in-laws.

Deepika Parmar (36), a doctor working at a public health centre in Bavla, was found hanging in her room on the first floor of her bungalow in Chandkheda at around 4 pm on Friday. Police sources said that no suicide note was found from the place.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the husband and in-laws of the doctor have landed in police custody for alleged dowry harassment.

Following the suicide, father of the deceased Dilip Parmar, a resident of Gandhinagar filed a complaint with Chandkheda police station accusing the husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide.

Based on the complaint, Chandkheda police arrested the husband, also a doctor, and his father, a few hours later.
Dilip accused Deepika’s husband and in-laws of harassing her for dowry since she got married in 1998.

Based on Dilip's complaint, the Chandkheda police arrested Dr Nagin Parmar and his father Devchand on Saturday. "They have been arrested for mental harassment and abetting suicide," police inspector, Chandkheda police station, RK Ladwa told DNA.

Dr Nagin works as a medical officer in a government dispensary in Amraiwadi. The couple have two sons.
