With Opposition alleging "policy paralysis" in the government after Economic Advisor Kaushik Basu's controversial remarks on economic reforms, the Congress on Saturday tried to stave off the attack by citing the successful launch of Agni-V.

"The missile test clearly indicates that this is a government, which is not diffident about taking decisions. A government afflicted with policy paralysis will not go ahead and take significant geo strategic decisions," Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said.

He said levelling such allegations against the government which has just two days back carried out the successful ICBM launch is "ridiculous" and asked the BJP to "better focus on its internal conflict".

Attacking the BJP, he said that "those who are giving unsolicited suggestions to the Prime Minister should see that they have not been able to solve their inner party contradictions in last three years.

"A country, which has entered the prestigious missile club, how can it be accused of policy paralysis. Over the years, UPA government has consolidated the country's defence preparedness," Tewari said.

He also blamed the Opposition for stalling crucial legislations in Parliament and said all those people concerned about policy paralysis should go and convince the Opposition to allow the passages of these measures.

A party leader speaking on condition of anonymity accepted that the launch of Agni has come a shot in the arm for the party at this time.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi had yesterday personally written to the DRDO Chairman VK Saraswan congratulating him for the launch. Saraswat also met the Prime Minister today to brief him on its future development programme.
