5 kids buried under sand in Bhavnagar

Five children, including four girls, died after they got buried under sand on a beach in Mahuva taluka of Bhavnagar district on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place at Choridhar near Akhtaria village, when the children, all from the same family, were resting close to a mound of sand created naturally on the beach, they said.

The children had been collecting fire wood in the morning from the area, and had taken a break at 11.30 am when a portion of the mound, they were resting upon collapsed, burying them, the police added.

Later, locals and others present at the spot rushed the children to Mahuva government hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
The deceased have been identified as Akhtaria residents Neeta Mackwana (12), Mamta Mackwana (11), Shobhana Mackwana (7) and Mahipat Mackwana (8) as well as Sonal Bhil (10) from Khared village. Sonal was in Akhtaria to visit her cousins.
