In an incident that has left residents of Udhna in a shock, a four-year-old was kidnapped from outside her home on Sunday evening and later raped and killed. The body of the child was then found from an abandoned house in Pandesara area, 12 kilometre away from Udhna late on Monday night.
According to police sources, the man who abducted Jigisha is believed to be not more than 30 years old. "We have come to know that he spoke Hindi with an Oriya ascent," the source said. Cops believe that the rapist might have planned out everything. "He must have identified the abandoned house in Pandesara before committing the crime," said sources.
Sources further said the initial medical reports suggest Jigisha was first raped and then strangulated to death. Jigisha alias Sushi Rathod 4, a resident of Halpati Mohallo at Morarji Vasahat in Udhna, was playing with her elder sister Kaushlya, 7, near their house.
While the sisters were playing, a man approached the children and gave Kaushalya some money to buy chocolates. He promised the child that he would take care of Jigisha while she brought the chocolates. Kaushalya then went to a nearby provision store to get the chocolates but when she returned her sister and the man were missing.
She then told her parents of the incidents and the family members began a hunt for the child. They then filed a complaint with the Udhna police station.
Before cops could initiate a search, Jigisha's body was found from an abandoned house at Vadod village near Pandesara, late on Monday evening.
The body was found by the owner of the abandoned house who had come there for some work. At the house, cops also found a stick with blood stains on it. Sources said the child's mouth was stuffed with rags.
Meanwhile family members of Jigisha said that they informed the police of the child after it went missing but the cops did not initiate a search immediately.
