Congress today said the 2G spectrum scam, in which two top DMK leaders, including chief minister M Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi, have been named as accused in CBI chargesheet, will not affect its ties with its key regional ally.

"There are no strains in the Congress-DMK alliance. As for the 2G spectrum issue, it is a Supreme Court-monitored probe which is being carried out by different agencies," Congress spokesperson Jayanthy Natarajan said.

Speaking to reporters here after calling on DMK patriarch, Karunanidhi, she said the 2G spectrum issue had "never strained" relations between the seven year-old allies and there was no chance that ties could be affected.

DMK leader and former telecom minister A Raja and Kanimozhi had been named in CBI chargesheet in the spectrum allocation scam.

Following Kanimozhi's inclusion in CBI'S supplementary chargesheet on Monday, DMK had convened a high-level committee meeting on April 27 to discuss the situation which had fuelled speculation of its pulling out from Congress-led UPA cabinet.

However, the party did not walk out of the UPA alliance and decided to fight the case legally. Responding to the recent expulsion of 19 Congress functionaries, including those from Youth Congress, by TNCC President K V Thangkabalu and the dissent against him, she said only the party high command will decide on these issues.
