22 bodies identified in Gyaneshwari Express train derailment

While 15 coffins were being sent to Kharagpur to bring back the bodies, arrangements were being made to send 40 more coffins.

Twenty-two bodies of the victims of the Gyaneswari Express derailment have so far been identified at the hospitals where they were sent for post-mortem, South Eastern railway sources said today.

One coach of all up and down EMU locals of SER were earmarked today to transport relatives and family members of
the dead and the injured, they said.

While 15 coffins were being sent to Kharagpur to bring back the bodies, arrangements were being made to send 40 more coffins.

Railway minister Mamata Banerjee has announced an ex-
gratia of Rs5 lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs1 lakh for the injured, besides statutory dues. In addition, she announced that one member of the victims' families would be given employment.

The West Bengal government has also announced a compensation of Rs3 lakh each for the victims' families.
