The Gujarat government may initiate a departmental inquiry against IPS officer Rahul Sharma after August 11. This is provided he fails to reply on the show-cause notice served to him, within the time limit. Sources in the state government indicated that though he might have to face charges under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) also, it would be up to the state government’s discretion whether to file an official police complaint against him after the departmental inquiry is completed.

Sharma has been served a show-cause notice demanding why the state government should not take action against him for doing work other than what he was officially given. “The notice may be lead to a departmental inquiry. There might be charges of violation of Official Secrets Act as well,” said sources.

The duration of the inquiry may be anywhere between one year and a decade.
