Shelter Homes Horror: Special Investigation Team seizes car used to transport girls in UP

During the course of its investigation, the SIT found that three former SPs continued to sent as many as 121 girls to the shelter homes even after its license was cancelled in June last year.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing Deoria Shelter home sex scandal, on Monday recovered a red-coloured car which used to take girls to Gorakhpur, Varanasi and other districts for sexual abuse.

The 10-year-old whistle-blower, who managed to escape from the shelter home on August 5, had told the police that red and white-coloured cars used to take shelter home girls in the evening and drop them back next day. Later, four other girls, who were sexually abused, had corroborated the statement of the girl.

Meanwhile, a team of forensic experts from Lucknow broke the seal of rooms at Maa Vidhyawasini Shelter Home in Deoria and took samples for examination. The rooms of the shelter homes were sealed after the Deoria Police had raided the place recovered 23 girls on August 5.

They rescued girls narrated their tale of horror and sexual abuse at the behest of the owners. The police had arrested Girija Tripathi, her husband Mohan Tripathi, daughters Kanaklata and Kanchanlata, cook Mala and a clerk in this connection.

On Monday, the SIT team recovered the red-coloured car. The SIT Inspector BK Singh claimed that the car was owned by Girija Tripathi and her family. A forensic team from Lucknow is examining the recovered vehicle. The SIT has taken Girija, Mohan and their daughter Kanchanlata on remand for interrogation.

Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court has slammed the state government for delay in action against the guilty. The bench comprising Chief Justice DB Bhosale and Justice Yashwant Singh has directed the state government to send four girls, who were sexually abused, to a safer and secure place of the court's choice.

The bench also directed the state government to ensure that identity of the recovered girls was not revealed till further orders. The bench directed the Principal Secretary Women and Child Welfare to submit an affidavit detailing action taken so far against the guilty.

The bench rapped the state government for inaction and failure to find out where these girls used to be taken and who were behind the running the sex scandal. It directed the government to submit a detailed report revealing names of those sexually exploiting shelter home girls and action taken against the guilty.

After the sex scandal surfaced, the Yogi Adityanath government had recommended probe by the CBI. Even after 15 days of its recommendation, the CBI is yet to take over the case from the SIT to begin the probe.
