Online admission for different colleges of the varsity is already underway and it is likely to commence its session for undergraduate students from the second week of August.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday inaugurated Patliputra University in Patna, and said the varsity was visualised to be developed as an innovative one, different from others.
The new university comprises about over 50 colleges, including affiliated, constituent, minority, BEd and engineering colleges of Patna and Nalanda district (all except those falling under Patna University), and has been carved out to ease the burden on Bodh Gaya-based Magadh University.

The Bihar CM in the presence of deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, state education minister KNP Verma, Patliputra University vice-chancellor Gulab Chandra Ram Jaiswal and pro-vice-chancellor GC Choudhary launched the varsity’s website, logo and anthem at Patna’s S K Memorial Hall on Monday.
Kumar said the varsity had a historic name and hoped that it would live up to it. “I request the teachers to take care of the students and we will take care of them,” he said and added 7th pay commission for teachers was on the state government’s anvil.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy CM asked the varsity to ensure there are 180 working days and that results are published within a month.
“Around 11 lakh students get enrolled in government colleges in Bihar compared to 1.98 lakh, who study in private institutions. We need to design new courses, as per the changing time for their welfare. We also need to work on improving enrollment in higher studies in the state,” Modi said.
Bihar’s education sector was allocated the largest amount in budgetary funds this fiscal year, standing at Rs 32,125 crore.
