With remaining two phases of Lok Sabha elections yet to go, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said “time for change has come” and that “time for Modi government (is) up”.

“Across India, it’s not just young people who are coming out in large numbers to vote for NYAY; older more experienced voters too have understood how powerful the idea is,” Rahul tweeted.

“Modi ji, your time is up. The time for change has come,” he said.

Addressing a poll rally at Morena in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress president alleged that the Modi government has “failed to deliver on his promises”.

“Let Narendra Modi say anything now, people have lost faith in him. He can no longer face the truth that the promises he made during the 2014 general elections have not been fulfilled,” the Congress president alleged.

At a news conference in Delhi, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram alleged that the Indian economy has entered a “disastrous phase of economic slowdown” under the Modi government.

“A massive shortfall of Rs 1.6 lakh crore in the tax revenues would effectively increase the actual fiscal deficit to 3.9%. The economy is expected to slow down further,” Chidambaram alleged.

“The BJP’s apathy for the rural economy and agriculture manifests in wages, prices, growth, and employment data,” he said.

He also accused Jaitley of perfecting the art of “concealing” data and projecting “doctored” information. “The FinMin report is a damning indictment of the state of the economy. This is perhaps the weakest point in the economy,” he said adding the next government has a lot of work to repair the economy to which the BJP has done “great damage”.
