Man arrested for beating wife, mother

A 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating up his wife and mother under the influence of alcohol at their residence in Sector 22 of Noida on Friday.

According to police, Swati Upadhyay accused her husband Pratik Upadhyay, a businessman, of assaulting her and threatening to strangle her and his mother as he didn't have a continuous source of income. The wife alleged that his regular demands for money had led to the altercation that resulted in him trying to strangulate them.

"Pratik would fight with his wife over money on regular basis. On Friday morning, he assaulted her under the influence of alcohol. He hit his mother also when she tried to intervene," said Akhilesh Tripathi, Station House Officer, Sector 24, Noida.

According to police, the accused preferred a lavish lifestyle and would seek money from all members of the family and once he exhausted it, he would take out his frustration by engaging in heated and sometimes violent arguments with his wife.

"A case of assault has been registered against Pratik. He was arrested and sent to jail," said Tripathi.

Pratik has been married for almost a decade and has two kids.
