In a shocking incident that shows lapse on part of authorities, the class X History paper of ongoing Maharashtra state board reportedly leaked an hour before the exam at a centre in Kalyan on Monday.
At around 9.30 am, officials at Kalyan’s Sacred Heart High School received a tip off that some of the students had been told that they would get the question papers on their phones an hour before the exam by a few coaching class owners in Ulhasnagar.
After the school officials checked the students’ phones at 10 am, an hour before the exam, two students were found with a copy of the History paper.
“We immediately alerted the board officials who then asked us to wait till the exam starts and then check if the paper was the same. After we checked that, we found that it was the exact same paper” said Albin Anthony, administrator at the school. The exam was scheduled between 11 am to 1 pm.
Following this, the school invigilators found that the paper had reached at least 12 students who went to different coaching classes in Kalyan and Ulhasnagar.
“Three coaching institutes - Vinita’s classes, Masoom classes and Twinkle classes seemed to have promised students that they would get papers beforehand. Later, students confessed the same and we have thus reported the said incident to the Kalyan Police” said Anthony.
Subhash Borse, in-charge secretary of the board’s Mumbai division confirmed the incident. “We did get a call at around 10 am from the school authorities regarding the issue. We asked the school to file an FIR at the local police station. Depending on what the police investigation is, the board would come up with a decision in the issue” he added.
