On the occasion of the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, mobile internet services were suspended in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday (February 9). Data services were in a suspended state in the union territory after the Centre abrogated Article 370 from J&K.
There are mild restrictions on parts of Srinagar, officials said.
Meanwhile, political outfits including the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and All Party Hurriyat Conference-have called for a shutdown in the valley on the occasion. Following the call, establishments remained closed in Srinagar and there was little to no public transport in the valley.
Reacting to the bandh, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have filed an FIR against the JKLF leaders who have called for a strike on Afzal Guru's death anniversary.
Moreover, another shutdown has been called on February 11 that mark the death anniversary of Maqbool Bhat -- founder of the organisation National Liberation Front (NLF).
Mobile data services and internet access were allowed across Jammu and Kashmir with restrictions on January 25. The internet speed was restricted to 2G only. No whitelisted sites were allowed, moreover, social media, peer to peer communication and virtual private network applications were restricted.
The development came after the Supreme Court on January 10 asked the authorities to review the restrictions in J&K and observed that access to the internet is a fundamental right under Article 19 of the Constitution.
Clampdown on internet services was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir after the Centre's abrogation of provisions of Article 370 on August 5 last year.
