In a case of honour killing, an irate father shot daughter and her lover dead with his licensed double barrel gun in Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Later, he went to the police station and surrendered with the murder weapon.

The incident was reported from Purwa Jangla village in Ambedkar Nagar. Family members told the police that Vandana (19) was in relationship with Shasikant (20) of nearby Sarawa village and both wanted to get married. But her father Jaisraj and his sons had strong objections to their relationship.

On Thursday, Shashikant visited Vandana's home when her father and family members were away. They were having a chat in a closed room when her father returned and knocked at her door. On seeing Shashikant in his daughter’s room, Jaisraj and his sons lost their temper.

While her brothers thrashed Shashikant, Jaisraj took out his licensed double-barrel gun and shot them point-blank. Both died on the spot. Hearing gun shots, neighbours rushed to Jaisraj’s to find the girl and her lover in a pool of blood.

Though police claimed that they arrested Jaisraj from his home with the murder weapon, villagers said that Jaisraj himself went to the police station with the gun to surrender after committing the crime.

The SSP Ambedkar Nagar Surendra Das said that it appeared to be a case of honour killing.

The SHO Aalapur Police Station Rahul Kumar said that the victim Shashikant was working in a private company in Himachal Pradesh and would be returning for the Eid weekend. However, he went to meet Vandana first, the police said.

Shashikant’s father Kamlesh lodged named FIR against Jaisraj and his two sons. Kamlesh alleged that Jaisraj’s sons had earlier threatened his son to stay away from their sister or face consequences.

"We have arrested Jaisraj and registered a case against him and his sons. Efforts are on to arrest his sons who are on the run after the crime," said the Kumar.
