Clamour is growing within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to walk out of the alliance with the BJP and realign with the secular forces taking a cue from the Bihar poll results.
Leading the charge is PDP Lok Sabha member from Srinagar Tariq Hameed Karra, who has asked his party bosses to wake up and come out of the alliance to salvage some pride in Jammu and Kashmir.
"It (defeat of NDA in Bihar) is wake up call. There is still time to salvage something. Walking out of the alliance is of course the only way to salvage (our pride). What we did (alliance with BJP) is antithesis. We might have committed mistake. But there is always a time when we can rectify the mistakes," Karra told dna.
Karra, a former J&K finance minister who defeated National Conference president and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah in his pocket borough of Srinagar in 2014, said the door has been closed for "communal forces" and Bihar results is a window of opportunity for the secular forces of the country to realign.
"Entire secular forces of the country should learn lessons from people of Bihar who deserve to be congratulated for showing the path. It is the time for the secular forces to realign because doors have been slammed for the communal forces in the country," he said.
PDP leader, who was not present at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Srinagar on Saturday, said he would have been happy if the message of realignment of secular forces would have come from Jammu and Kashmir.
"The message from Jammu and Kashmir would have been more forceful, meaningful and politically loaded. But unfortunately it did not happen. I would still say that there is still time to salvage," said Karra.
Main opposition National Conference (NC), which lost both Lok Sabha and assembly polls last year, went gaga over the defeat of NDA in Bihar elections.
NC working president and former chief minister Omar Abdullah was among the first few leaders who called up Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar to congratulate him for the victory. "Spoke to Nitish Kumar Sahib to congratulate him on behalf of my father and myself for his great victory", Omar tweeted.
Without naming anyone, Omar poked fun over the "crackers in Pakistan" comment after the poll results showed Nitish winning landslide. "Sorry, it's all the smoke from the crackers in neighboring Pakistan ;)", said former chief minister.
Even the separatist camp is rejoicing the victory of Nitish Kumar in Bihar. "It is indeed a good news that BJP led NDA has been defeated because successes had gone to their heads," said a separatist leader requesting anonymity.
