A senior Congress leader from the state has accused chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's brother of taking a bribe of Rs 20 lakh.

Party's ex-spokesperson KK Mishra on Thursday said that he had got a sting operation conducted on Chouhan's brother Narendra Singh which established him taking the bribe and demanded that chief minister resign on moral grounds.

Describing the modus operandi of his sting operation, Mishra while releasing its CD at a press conference here, said his team had first approached Ujjain's Ajay Tiwari, a close aide of Narendra Singh, to help them secure a mining lease in Chhatarpur and Sagar.

"We had set up a company 'Shyam Industry' which was supposed to be based in Kolkata. This company then signed a Memorandum of Understanding with administration during investors' meet in Indore in 2007. Later, one of our team members posing as company's CEO, SS Khare approached Tiwari and asked for his help to get the mining lease for the firm. Tiwari assured us that the job would be done and fixed a meeting with Narendra Singh in his house in Bhopal," Mishra said .

Mishra said that at Narendra Singh 's behest, Tiwari accepted a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from Khare in a car on August 30, 2008.

"Tiwari used to be a small time supplier of fabrics to Tribal Welfare Department. He became a prosperous businessman after his association with CM's brother, who acted as his middlemen in his deals," claimed Mishra.

The operation was carried out between 2007 and 2009, Mishra said and claimed to have spent a sum of Rs 1.75 crore on it though he did not reveal any details of  who funded the operation. "I will reveal all during investigation," said Mishra and demanded that CM resign on moral grounds as his brother, wife and brother-in-law were facing corruption charges.

Senior BJP leader Babusingh Raghuwanshi, while  brushing aside the corruption charges, said, "The CD has been edited and the allegations are attempts of defaming CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his family members The Congress fears the popularity of BJP Government and as such is distracting people's attention and gaining cheap popularity."
