Burdwan blast: Kolkata court allows NIA custody of accused till October 22

A Kolkata sessions court today allowed the National Investigating Agency (NIA) to have custody of three of the accused involved in the Burdwan blast case.

The custody has been granted till October 22.

NIA's advocate Sanjay Vardhan said, "On behalf of the NIA, we had asked for the custody of the three accused in the Burdwan case, the court allowed our wishes, we have their custody till Oct. 22."

He added, "The fourth injured accused is already in the SSKM Hospital under treatment and we have prayed for his safety and security and the direction has been given to the superintendent of SSKM Hospital and the concerned police station of that area."

He further informed that the investigation is going on, and for the safety and security of the accused persons, they have asked for their custody.

Two suspected militants were killed and one sustained injuries in an explosion at a TMC leader's house in Burdwan town on October 2. Two women were arrested in connection with the explosion on October 5. The police are probing the possible involvement of militant outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba and Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami in the blast.

A large number of watch dials, SIM cards, and other tools required to make improvised explosive devices were found in the house where blast took place during the festival of Durga Puja.
