Director Patty Jenkins took to social media to unveil the first look of Saturday Night Live actor Kristen Wiig in the upcoming sequel Wonder Woman 1984.

Taking to his Instagram account, Jenkins posted the picture with a caption, "Enter Barbara Minerva? #WW84".

Wonder Woman 1984 is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Wonder Woman.

Kristen Wiig plays a British anthropologist, who, after locating the lost city of Urzkartagan, stumbles into an ancient ritual and becomes the avatar of their Cheetah god. Cheetah is set to be the primary antagonist in the film.

Wiig's outfit is a callback to the '80s era we saw in the previous two images released by the filmmaker and Gal Gadot. Big wavy hair, baggy red top, skirts and leg warmers look perfect on the Bridesmaids actress.

In the earlier released images, Gal Gadot aka Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman was seen staring at a window display full of TVs broadcasting the pop culture references of the time.

The second image was quite a shock for the fans of the movie franchise. It showed Chris Pine's Steve Trevor come back to life. In the image, he was stood in a mall, rocking the bomber jacket and sneakers trend.

Apart from these three, Game of Thrones and Narcos veteran Pedro Pascal has been cast to play a mysterious. Fan speculation chatter says that he will play some kind of god on the lines of Zeus.

It is being speculated that in the second stand-alone movie, Wonder Woman will stop the world war from going nuclear, given the story arc set during the peak of geopolitical tension.

Wonder Woman's box office success changed the dynamics for Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot. Jenkins became one of the highest paid female directors when she signed on for the second movie. A little over $800 million at the till gave negotiating powers to Jenkins and Gadot. Latter used it to have Brett Ratner, who is accused of sexual harassment in the wake of Me Too movement in Hollywood, removed as a producer from the movie.

It also helped that Wonder Woman was the DC Extended Universe film that was loved by the audience and critics alike

The second instalment is scheduled to release on November 1, 2019.
