The actress had won the National award for best actress for her performance in 'The Dirty Picture' in 2012.

Bollywood star Vidya Balan took to Twitter on Friday to clarify her statements regarding the return of National Awards by several filmmakers.
The actress had recently taken the stand that she would not be returning her National Award because it was something that the nation has bestowed on her and hence she would not be returning it.
On Friday, she wrote on Twitter-

While talking about not returning the award, the actress had said, "This honour (the award) is by the nation and not the government. So I do not want to return it." Balan had won the National award for best actress for her performance in The Dirty Picture in 2012.
She also said that working towards social causes should be an individual decision and no one should be compelled to work for a particular cause.
