All the characters in 'True Detective' have several layers. 'Maybe Tomorrow' could be the episode where all are stripped to reveal their true identity.

The second episode of True Detective Season 2 picked up pace and literally ended  with a bang. The cliffhanger had fans wondering if this is it for Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell), just when we were getting to understand the many layers of the man.

Trust me, this is not a spoiler and we are not watching Game of Thrones (Boy, what I would give to know if Jon Snow is alive!). Velcoro is alive and has gotten himself in the bad books of Ani Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams).

The synopsis of 'Maybe Tomorrow' reads -

'Ani lets Ray know she’s in charge after he goes rogue on the investigation, even though he stumbles on crucial evidence that takes the case in a new direction. Meanwhile, Frank meets with his former associates in the criminal underworld, but they make it clear they’re not taking orders from him anymore; and Paul hits the streets to see if Caspar’s face rings a bell.'

So we know that Velcoro is here to stay. His rogue move, though an outrageous act in the eyes of Bezzerides, might give viewers some leads as to who the person with the bird head is. Why did Casper face the gruesome death? Where did Frank Seymon's money go?

Frank Seymon (Vince Vaughn), on the other hand, will probably continue on his solo quest to get his money back. There is a possibility that he might have sent Velcoro to Casper's secret hideout with the purpose of hurting him after the detective said he would stop working for him. So looks like Velcoro is not a friend anymore? If Seymon's quest lands him with former colleagues, and they are not willing to give him advantage because of a shared past, what can he resort to?

So with Velcoro out of the ring for a while, watching Frank's next move will be the interesting part of the next episode.

The promo also hints at this next move on Frank's part. Frank will run into Paul Woodrugh (Taylor Kitsch). The cop who has been there and yet, not really there, for the past two episodes. Sidelined Velcoro will give way to Woodrugh as a full-time detective with Bezzerides. Like we saw in the last episode, Woodrugh is already on surveillance and this will lead him to the streets, to make enquiries about Casper.

Woodrugh is also seen questioning the Mayor's wife and later, has a run-in with Frank. This meeting does not look pleasant at all.

So, what am I looking for in the next episode?

1. Where is Velcoro after taking shots to the gut?
2. Now that Bezzerides has pissed off the Mayor of Vinci, will she be the next one to get shot at or run over by a truck?
3. Has Frank set his foot back in the quicksand of the underworld he just left?
4. Will Woodrugh do anything substantial at all?
