After failing thrice to clear the UPSC, when Avdesh Sakya planned to eliminate 7-year-old Ashish due to enmity with his parents, he thought of earning some easy money through ransom at the same time. The plan, however, did not go as hoped, since Sakya failed to dispose off the body from his house, as avoiding a number of CCTV cameras in the narrow lanes of Swaroop Nagar foiled his attempts twice.

In his confession, Sakya revealed that he had planned to demand a ransom of Rs 15-20 lakhs, but only if he could manage to dispose off the body of the kid. The cops probing the matter said that Sakya always accompanied the family members to police stations and also in search operations. His closeness with the family and their trust in him also kept his house away from the list of those raided during Ashish's search.

"After about two weeks, when Sakya's residence started emanating foul smell, he came under suspicion but when the police and neighbours entered his house, they found dead decomposed rats. Since the smell emanating from the rodents was bad, nobody paid attention to the suitcase bearing Ashish's body," said an officer.

Sakya also told the police that he tried to dispose off the body twice, so that he can demand ransom from the family, posing as a kidnapper, but he could not step out of his house with the suitcase as there were many CCTV cameras installed in the locality.

"The suitcase had been wrapped with a sack and was taped all around. Anyone who would spot Sakya with that might would have raised suspicion. Thinking this, he planned to keep the body in his house until the police reduced surveillance, but his plan failed," police said.
