Sri Lanka were 183 for the loss of seven wickets in 35 overs chasing a massive target of 393 runs to win the second ODI of the 3-match series against Sri India in Mohali.

Angelo Mathews was batting on 46 but Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at the other end. Upul Tharanga (7) was the first Sri Lankan wicket to fall. Hardik Pandya, who opened the bowling with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, sent him back in the fourth over with the score just 15. Jasprit Bumrah then got the wicket of Gunathilaka (15) to make it 30/2. Washington Sundar earned his first ODI wicket as he dismissed Thirimanne for 21. Sundar was involved in the next dismissal as well as he caught Dickwella (22) off Yuzvendra Chahal.

Chahal then took two more wickets to all but ensure India's win the match. Gunaratne was stumped by MS Dhoni for 34. Dhoni then pulled a good catch behind the stumps to send back captain Thissara Perera for 5.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar then got the wicket of Sachith Pathirana  to reduce Sri Lanka to 180 for 7.

Earlier, India's stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma slammed a scintillating double-century on Wednesday to give India the upper hand in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. His unbeaten 208 helped the hosts score a massive 392 for 4 in their quota of 50 overs.

Put into bat, the hosts got off to a rollicking start thanks to opener Shikhar Dhawan. The left-hander looked set to get a big one but suffered a soft-dismissal as he tried to sustain his early momentum.

From there on, it was a Rohit show all the way. The right-hander punished the hapless Lankan bowlers with a flurry of fours and sixes.

Rohit, leading the side in Virat Kohli's absence, looked like a man on a mission as he tried to make amends to the humiliating defeat in the first ODI in Dharamsala. He brought up his 16th ODI century - sixth in 2017 - in 115 balls, in the 40th over. Although he got there in less than run-a-ball, he picked up soon after by putting on a six-hitting exhibition.

Suranga Lakmal, who tormented the Indians with a four-wicket-haul in the first ODI, was given special treatment by Rohit - four sixes in a single over. The 30-year-old gave preference to the fine-leg boundary, hitting some outrageous sweep shots against pacers for sixes.

Rohit ended with 208*, slamming 12 sixes and 13 fours in his knock.
