When Varun Dhawan teamed up with Sriram Raghavan for Badlapur, he talked about really going into the dark space in his head. He cut off from the outside world, including his own family and friends to stay true to his character. Ayushmann Khurrana is Raghavan’s new hero in his next film, Shoot The Piano Player. When asked whether he too will adopt the method way of acting, he says, “No. I don’t believe in switching off from the outside world in any way. My life is mostly outside and unless you experience something outside, you can’t really incorporate that in your character on screen. It’s not easy to work with a director, who’s as demanding as Sriram. A non-actor cannot work with him because he leaves a lot of room for improvisation and gives you that space. He makes it more interesting and lets you do what you can do to add more flavour to your role. That way, it is difficult but you don’t have to switch off.”
