As former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa moved from one hospital to another and back to jail, the Congress mocked developments in BJP-ruled states and charged that a fair trial cannot be expected in such a dispensation.

“He seems to be on a five-star jail yatra, where the entire state cabinet is in attendance and taking orders from him. Surely, this is not the way any other citizen would be treated by the authorities,” said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Wednesday.

Singhvi said the BJP’s hypocrisy on the issue of corruption stands exposed in this case. “They tried every trick in the book to ensure that he did not have to resign for two-and-a-half years. Even though he had been forced to step down, they have chosen to lend him their political support. Under these circumstances, how can it be expected that cases against him would be investigated,” he added.

The Congress also attacked senior BJP leader LK Advani for shedding crocodile tears over the issue of corruption. “Nothing demonstrates the BJP’s hypocrisy more than the statements by their senior leader,” said Singhvi.
