A 45-year-old woman was killed and her son injured in an attack by a group of unidentified men in Srirampura on Sunday.
Pushpa, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Srirampura, was attacked while she was coming out of a shop at 7th main after purchasing clothes for her granddaughter’s birthday around 6.45 pm, the police said. Her son Shankar, 22, was with her.

A gang of eight people hacked her with machetes and other lethal weapons. Shankar also suffered injuries on his hands when he tried to protect her. After the attackers fled, Shankar rushed a severely wounded Pushpa to KC General Hospital in Malleswaram. But Pushpa died before being admitted to hospital,
    the police said.

Pushpa was a private financier and had invested crores of rupees in the business, the police said. She also had the reputation of being strict and even heartless when it came to recovering money, they said. “An aggrieved customer could be behind the attack,” Srirampura police inspector Upadhya VP said.

“It could also be the handiwork of the associates of Palani,” deputy commissioner of police (DCP, North division) HS Revanna said. Pushpa’s nephews Harish and Satish were accused in the murder of Palani. “Following the murder, Pushpa had shifted them to Tamil Nadu. So, we suspect the involvement of Palani’s associates in this attack,” the DCP said. “We have formed two teams for investigating the case. We have identified the men behind the attack, but we cannot disclose their names. They will be arrested soon.”
