The Bangalore police (Central Crime Branch) arrested two abductors on Saturday for kidnapping a real-estate businessman for ransom in March.

The duo, with two others, kidnapped businessman Sanjay on March 29 at 3.30pm near the Central Police Station in VV Puram and demanded that he pay a ransom of Rs10 lakh.

The kidnappers, identified as rowdy Gupendra alias Guppa, 41, a resident of Siddarthnagar, and Tyagaraju alias Tyagu, 31, of Banashankari, have been arrested. Police are still on the lookout for the other two.

On March 29, the abductors Guppa and Tyagu hatched a plan to kidnap Sanjay. In the pretext of seeking help from him in a land deal, the kidnappers asked Sanjay to come near the Central Police Station. When Sanjay came in, the kidnappers forcibly pushed him into a car and drove towards UB City. They demanded Rs10 lakh as ransom from Sanjay. Left with no choice, he consented and paid the kidnappers the money.

Later, Sanjay lodged a complaint. After investigations, the police arrested two kidnappers and seized Rs3.5 lakh and a hi-tech mobile phone worth Rs57, 000.

Investigations revealed that the accused Tyagaraju has been running a finance sca. His relative Shivakumar alias Kodanda has been involved in two murders and is locked up in Central Jail.

Investigations also revealed that Shivakumar was the brain behind the kidnap. Sources said he has also been building a gang in the jail to kill another rowdy sheeter Cycle Ravi who is also behind bars. He had also hatched a plan to kill one of the BBMP corporators.

“We are looking into the illegal finance of Tyagaraja. He was loaning money at a high rate of 15-20%. We have collected some evidence, and a case of illegal finance will be registered on him,” said joint commissioner of police (crime) Alok Kumar.
