“It must have worked...the look, I mean. Why else would everyone be calling me,” wondered designer Paresh Lamba.

Responsible for adding the word dapper to the chief minister’s wardrobe, especially for the Global Investors Meet, Lamba said  it was easy to work with the leader.

“I met him for five minutes. That’s it. After that, I was coordinating with his daughter and gladly, they were on the same plane as I was. They agreed to all the ideas I shared with them. I haven’t really done the whole look for him – just the suits. Then again, I
had only six days to come up with the designs,” he said.

Lamba said that he kept two things in mind while creating the wardrobe. It had to look smart and be comfortable. “I picked two specific styles. One, the typical Italian business suit, which I think is ideal for business meetings and two, the bandhgala. I believe that the bandhgala is the epitome of the Indian man. One can look extremely handsome in it. And the chief minister has carried off both the styles with aplomb. He looked good and everyone has taken notice, which can only be good news,” the designer said.

While Lamba hasn’t spoken to the chief minister after the event commenced, he said it was quite a pleasure to design for Yeddyurappa. “It was an honour to have created something for him. He looks like a corporate chief minister now — totally the part,” a happy Lamba said.

The city’s fashion fraternity too seemed happy with the way the chief minister appeared in such a global forum. “Yeddyurappa has always been a good looking man. He has amazing complexion. I like the fact that he decided to up his style quotient by wearing something formal like this. It is quite wonderful to see him in something like this. I’m looking towards seeing him in some Indian formals too, like bandhgalas and sherwanis,” style guru Prasad Bidapa said.

Designer Raj Shroff felt that the chief minister looked good in his new avatar. “I am really happy that he chose to experiment with such a look and carried it off with elan. I’m also happy for Paresh that he got to style him for a meet like this,” Shroff said.
