With Namma Metro all set to make its entry, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is trying its best to complete the basic norms. The corporation has outlined items that will not be allowed inside the Metro premises.

The security aspects of the Namma Metro project are currently being audited jointly by the Bangalore Metro and the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF).

“The audit will look into possible threats and requirements in terms of personnel, arms and ammunition, and equipment like detectors. If we are made in charge of security, it will follow the same norms chalked out for the Delhi Metro,” said Rohit Katiyar, AIG and spokesman of CISF.

However, BMRCL also  plans to form a Namma Metro Police Force, with the help of some of the heads of the state police force.

BMRCL spokesperson said, “It is a state subject and the state government and state police are looking into the matter. The CISF has already given them a report of their audit, and the government has to take a call on whether the CISF will be given the security charge.”

Although there are a number of civil works to be completed within the station buildings of all six stations of Reach 1, the Metro Corporation is trying to build in all the basic facilities like elevators, lifts, ticketing machines, automatic fare-collecting gates, operation control centres, and CCTV cameras at some of the crucial points inside the station.

BMRCL has also outlined items that are prohibited in the Metro stations. “Things that are commonly prohibited by railways and airports will be banned inside the Namma Metro as well,” said BLY Chavan, spokesman of BMRCL.

Items such as crackers, explosive solids, liquids, natural gas or petroleum products, metals that can cause problems in elevators, eatables, cigarettes, and firearms are prohibited.

Licensed firearms can be taken but the document for the same will be checked at the entry points.
