Politicians in the state indicted on graft charges are escaping jail term on health grounds and the case of former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, who was shifted to Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology on complaints of coronary problems, should be subjected to a judicial probe, says former KPCC president B Janardhana Poojary.

Several politicians, who were caught in various scandals, scams and corruption charges like Haratal Halappa and Katta Subramanya Naidu, had successfully evaded jail term on health grounds.

“These people are enacting a drama, misleading the judiciary and hoodwinking the law. Either they should be sent to jail again or a judicial official of the rank of a judge of the high court should be asked to probe into the cause of illness either suo motu or under a private complaint,” Poojary said.

“I challenge chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda to order a probe into cases of politicians escaping jail term. Gowda had earlier said it was an ‘agni pareeksha’ and if he wanted to pass it, he should set up an inquiry,” he added. Poojary wanted BJP leader LK Advani to suspend his rath yatra in the wake of a leader of his party being sent to jail on charges of corruption. Since the yatra was stated to be against corruption, this was the right time for him to suspend it.

“Instead, he should go back to Delhi and evict all tainted MLAs including BS Yeddyurappa, Halappa, Katta Subramanya Naidu and Janardhana Reddy,” he said. The BJP and its tainted MLAs were trying to subvert the judicial system, unlike the tainted leaders at the Centre including A Raja and Kanimozhi who had been jailed in connection with the 2G spectrum scam, he added.
