It is time you hone your computer skills if you wish to land a government job. Computer tests would soon be mandatory for all government job aspirants, except for Group ‘D’ categories, such as office peons, police constables, forest guards, nurses, drivers and primary school teachers.

Those already in service would have to become computer literates and pass the computer test within the next three years.

Those who fail to clear the test within the three-year deadline would be denied promotions and their annual increments too would be withheld if they fail to clear the test even after four years. The state cabinet took the decision to this effect on Friday.

Not for the 50s
However, those aged above 50 and are already in government service would be exempted from the rule.  “They would earn an additional incentive of Rs5000 if they voluntarily learn computer skills, said law and parliamentary affairs minister S Suresh Kumar.

The state government has agreed to provide 55 acres at a market rate for setting up a CISF battalion centre near Nelamangala in Bangalore Rural district.  A centre is being set up  at a cost of Rs100 crore.

The by-poll for Chikmagalur-Udupi Lok Sabha constituency —  to be held on March 18 — has forced chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda to postpone the state budget presentation.

“Now. the budget is likely to be presented on March 31,” the minister said.   As the budget usually consists of a slew of new projects and programmes appealing to the people, it would amount to violation of poll code of conduct.

Hence, the budget could be presented only after the by-polls, the chief minister said.
