Sadananda Gowda becomes a whistleblower with students

Students from Edify School learnt a new lesson on Friday—to blow the whistle on those who litter. Over 12 students gathered at Krishna, the chief minister’s official residence, during Janatha Darshan and participated in an awareness programme about maintaining cleanliness in Bangalore.

Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda attended the programme along with the students. Every one was listening intently, as pre-primary headmistress Sujatha N Rao, administration member Srilatha Umesh and faculty member Preeti Tiwari shed light on the issue.

The children were taught to literally blow the whistle when they see somebody littering on the streets. In fact, the students also presented a whistle to Gowda.

The whistle-blowing campaign is a step to encourage people to keep the surroundings clean. The objective is to make this a mass movement.

Every violator found littering on the streets will be gifted a whistle, and they in turn will have to blow the whistle on other violators who make the city dirty.

Rao explained the children were happy when the chief minister blew the whistle with them. “It created such an impact. The children blew their whistlers every time they spotted an offender, until they reached the school,” she said.
