An instance of road rage turned uglier on Monday when a group of advocates attacked an accused person, brought to the court complex on Nrupatunga Road with police escort.

The accused, Yuvraj, was arrested after he and his friends allegedly attacked an advocate in a fit of rage on Saturday morning.

The man was arrested on Sunday, and was taken to additional chief metropolitan magistrate’s court around 3.30 pm on Monday.
The police took Yuvraj to the court of magistrate Kiran Kini, who remanded him to judicial custody. The advocates attacked him while he was brought out of the court room.

The advocates tore off Yuvraj’s shirt and attacked him with chairs. A few police officers, who had tried to protect the man, were also injured.

Yuvraj, son of a former under secretary, Hanumanthappa, was later whisked away to a hospital in an ambulance. No case has been filed against the advocates.

The issue started on Saturday when an advocate, Rajendra Prasad, picked up a fight with Yuvraj and his friends at the Vinayaka Hospital. The advocate had stopped his car to help his child get off it, obstructing Yuvraj’s SUV. Enraged, the accused allegedly rammed his car into Prasad’s vehicle, which resulted in fisticuffs.

Prasad sustained injuries and has been hospitalised. Bangalore advocates’ association president KN Putte Gowda alleged that the police registered a case only after other advocates protested in front of the police station. Inspector Rajendra, of Chandra Layout police, denied the allegation.

The advocates also accused Yuvraj of offering money to withdraw the case.

Police commissioner Shankar M Bidari ordered investigations into both the incidents.

Law minister Suresh Kumar who visited the court, said he would apprise the home minister of the incident.
