Prakash Karat demand disqualification of Karnataka MLAs be revoked

The CPI(M) today demanded that the disqualification of Karnataka MLAs be revoked and steps taken for a proper vote of confidence in the state assembly by B S Yeddyurappa government.

"The disqualification of the MLAs from Karanataka assembly be revoked and they be allowed to be present in the House for a proper vote of confidence in the House by the Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka," CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat told reporters here.

"Without doing so, the Yeddyurappa government cannot be treated as having acquired a vote of confidence," he added.

He termed the vote of confidence in Karnataka assembly a "farcical and gross violation" of democratic norms.

Asked whether the Centre or the Governor be blamed for Karnataka development, Karat said since the matter was pending with the high court, after the court's verdict it will be known whether the rules were strictly followed during the crucial confidence vote" on October 11.
