Udupi Pejawar mutt seer Vishvesha Thirtha swamiji will go on 24-hour fast in protest of the Sode Vadiraja mutt's boycott of Sugunendra Thirtha swamiji of Puthige mutt for the Paryaya festival which is to be held on Wednesday.

“I will not be attending the Paryaya Palanquin procession as well as the durbar proceedings, it is painful that the Sode Vadiraja mautt authorities have taken a hard stance on inviting Sugunendra Thirtha for Paryaya, despite the advice and guidance of several senior devotees, scholars and other ashtamath swamijis,” the Pejawar seer said.

The decision of going on fast came close on the heels of Sugunendra Thirtha's hunger strike decision on Sunday. The Sode Vadiraja mutt authorities headed by administrator Rathna Kumar did not comment on the hunger strike of both the seers.

“We were not competent to answer queries on questions on whether or not all the Ashtamath swamijis attend the Paryaya festival,” Kumar said.

The matter has now turned serious following the Vishvesha Thirtha’s decision of going on fast.

Sources in Sode mutt told DNA on condition of anonymity that the move was like a bolt from the blue as the math authorities had not expected this response from the senior seer. The sources also accussed Krishnapura math seer Vidyasamudra Thirtha for instigating Sode math authorities.
