People visiting the BBMP’s assistant revenue office (ARO) in Jagjeevanram Nagar zone on Goodshed Road are returning home glum-faced.

Palike officials are so busy meeting the deadline for entering voters’ data for the Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) that they have prohibited the public from entering the office.

According to Krishna, Azad Nagar resident and businessman, over the past one week, he has been visiting the ARO for getting some correction carried out in his Khata extract.

“But the officers are refusing to get the work done, saying they are busy with other works. They tell us to come after a week. I am disgusted by the behaviour of these officials. The office is for public work and even though officials are busy with other administrative work, they cannot deny public work. We can’t waste our time visiting the office leaving our work every week,” he said angrily.

This is not the first case of residents being sent back by BBMP officials. Rubbing salt into their wound, the officials have also pasted a notice in Kannada in front of the office, stating that because of work related to EPIC, people are prohibited from entering the office till September 15,

When questioned, officials said there was only one computer in the office and the software to enter the voters’ data had been installed.

“Every day, a lot of people come to our office to get their work done. Due to this, the staffer operating the computer is not able to enter the data. If staffers are disturbed even for a minute, the work will be delayed. So we’ve pasted the notice in front of the office requesting the public to come after a week,” a BBMP official said.

When DNA contacted the zonal revenue officer Chandrashekar, he said the officers were busy entering EPIC card details.

“As the deadline is nearing and we have to submit the details in a day or two, the officers are busy with the work. Earlier, the entering of the details was outsourced but this time the BBMP officials have to enter the details. The public will suffer due to the work which has been assigned to us,” he conceded.
