New system will streamline the reservation system and prevent capitation fee at the time of admission.
You will soon be able to use just one application form to apply for admission to more than 30 pre-university (PU) colleges.
The state Pre University Education (PUE) department is planning to implement this system in Bangalore Urban district on a pilot basis for the next academic year.
“We will bring out a form which gives nearly 40 options for a candidate to mention names of the preferred colleges. There will also be a list of available courses for candidates’ information,” officials in the department told DNA.
Presently, students who have passed the SSLC, ICSE or CBSE examinations and are seeking admission to PU courses (Class XI), have to procure separate application forms to apply for admission to different PU colleges.
The officials said the objective behind the single application form system is to avoid burden on students of paying more money to buy the forms and to avoid capitation fee at the time of PU admissions, besides maintaining the reservation system.
As per existing rules of PUE department, colleges are barred from charging more than Rs15 per application form, while the prospectus should be sold at a separate counter. But most colleges do not follow the rules and the department has received complaints from parents and students every year.
The single application form system will be facilitated through a centralised admission procedure, which will be computerised.
The PUE department will set up help desks and nodal centres in various parts of Bangalore to allow students and their parents to procure the application form and help them fill it. The department will soon begin training its representatives deputed to handle the nodal centre and the help desks.
