Monorail report getting ready: Yeddyurappa

The chief minister said that Bangalore Metro Reach One from MG Road to Byappanahalli would start commercial operations from April 4 as planned and the remaining work would be competed according to the schedule.

In his reply to the budget debate on Wednesday, chief minister BS Yeddyurappa told the house that Namma Metro Reach One from MG Road to Byappanahalli would start commercial operations from April 4 as planned and the remaining work would be competed according to the schedule.

“In support of metro, we are planning to take up mono or light rail system. A detailed project report on this is getting ready. To begin with, we are planning to introduce mono or light rail on the 31-km stretch from Hebbal to JP Nagar and the 9-km stretch from Peripheral Ring Road to Magadi  Road Toll Gate,” he said.

To provide drinking water to the newly added areas, the state government has earmarked `1,150 crore for Cauvery 4th phase 2nd stage whose work will be completed by March 2012.

The chief minister, who is always generous in extending financial assistance to temples and mutts, announced `19 crore for various mutts. Adichunchanagiri Mutt, Nagamanagala, Renuka Yellamma Devastana, Belgaum, and Datta Peeta, Chikkamagalur, will get `5 crore each. Madhwa Matha, Udupi, and Jail Temple Venur, Dakshin Kannada, will get `2 crore each. The chief minister also announced `1crore to the president of zilla panchayat to take up developmental works.

Turning to shortage in supply of coal, he blamed the Union government for not allotting the resource for power projects in the state. If this goes on, the state government has to seriously consider having own coal blocks to address its needs, he said.

“Although we have sent several requests, the Union government has not allotted coal to these power projects. Shortly, we will lead a delegation to Delhi to pressure the Union government for coal allotment,” he said.

The chief minister said 1400 MW to 1500 MW of power would be added to the state grid. Of this, 500 MW will be generated from Bellary 3rd unit in September, 600 MW from Udupi power plant by August and 30 MW from Nagajhari. From non conventional energy sources, 500 MW would be produced.

“Our intention is to make the state self-sufficient in the power sector in the next three years and ensure 24 hours power supply to all households,” said the chief minister.
