Made a mistake while filling in the form for the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) for admission to government-run professional colleges?

No need to worry. Earlier, the KEA followed the practice of rejecting applications with mistakes in them. This year, however, KEA officials will call all students whose applications need correction to their office. The students will be helped to correct the mistakes and submit their forms again.

This is the first time that the KEA has decided to lend a hand to students foxed by application forms. Candidates will be summoned to the KEA office, where they can make the corrections. “Earlier, even for small spelling mistakes, we used to reject application forms. Now, we have decided to call candidates who have made mistakes to the office, so they can fill the form again,” said SP Kulkarni, administrative officer, KEA.

CET 2010 is scheduled to be held on April 28 and 29. KEA has already started sending messages to candidates who have made mistakes in their forms. “We will send SMSes to candidates and ask them to come to the Bangalore office. We use what contact details we have so we can inform students and enable them to rectify mistakes,” Kulkarni said.

Some common mistakes that students make while filling in their application forms include not attaching details of the PUC, and forgetting to sign at the end of the form. Officials said, “We instruct candidates to read the brochure carefully before filling in the form. Even so, many candidates fill the forms in a hurry and make mistakes.”

A KEA official said, “We have extended to students the opportunity to correct mistakes made while filling in the application forms on humanitarian grounds. The forms will need to be attested before they are submitted again, and we ourselves will do the attestation.”

Rush in your application form

Officials at KEA have even decided to accept application forms that have arrived past the March 17 deadline.

This decision was taken as 25 of the 1,670 PU colleges in the state have not yet sent application forms of students to the KEA. Besides, the whole procedure was delayed this year, as the seat matrix and other details were finalised late.

Compared to last year, the KEA has also seen a slight fall in the numbers of students applying. Last year, 1,20,000 students had sent application forms to the KEA.

This year, till date, only 1,18,000 applications were received. Officials will continue to accept applications until April 7.
